Phase 2 Fitness, part 2
I often return to the concept of Phase 2 Fitness (you can read more abut it here ). Movement is such a key part of life. Last month I spent some time in Mexico, and while I was there I took a few yoga classes, and walked several miles a day, comfortably (well, not my feet, but the rest of my body. A lesson in packing that I won't forget any time soon). Phase 2 fitness is a level of consistency most people give up on before they settle into a routine. It involves a lot of tria

A mini adventure: Columbus, Ohio
Thursday: Sometimes the best days are the unexpected adventures. With wrapping up my Pilates program, one of the ways I keep consistent with my self-practice hours and training hours is to take Private lessons at Lifted Studio in Columbus with Jordan Sugarman. My goal is to make it out twice a month, but with LIFE I make it about once a month. Ben had an unexpected day off so he decided to come with me; he was my victim for apprenticeship hours. I spent an hour in a private s

The privilege to be underwhelmed
Punta Sur, Isla Mujeres, Fab 2026 I’ll never complain about a week in the sun. I’ll never complain about a week with family. I’ll never complain about an uninterrupted week with my fiancé. In a plave where the water is so clear it looks fake. But I’ll damn sure complain about shitty sheets, raw burgers and the most inattentive staff I’ve ever encountered. Call me spoiled but when you go to guest services and show them a picture of a raw burger you expect…. Something to happen

Quaterly Update: Winter 2026
It's so cold. The kind of cold where you think it will never thaw out and we're just going to be in permanent winter; however, Winter's really used to just be like this. They used to be pretty cold and shitty. I remember years in college where it snowed, every day. I remember walking to class in the snow, for weeks. So, while we may not be acclimated to it, it's not entirely unusual. The arctic blasts are a bit much though.... I'm enjoying having to be stuck in the house a bi

Phase 3 Fitness
I've somehow drifted into Phase 3 fitness. I wasn't really trying to, it just sorta... happened. (If you're like what is Phase 3 fitness, check out this post here ) It's that if you don't change where you are going, you might end up where you have always been philosophy. I tend to drift into Phase 3 fitness. I've been working on consciously not doing it but alas, something about mice and men. I tend to overextend, I have a hard time saying no. A few weeks ago I decided I was

System Redundancy
While many people think of redundancies as something that's not useful, just because it's not useful in the moment. Just because it's not currently in use doesn't mean it's not serving a purpose. The E brake in your car. Having multiple smoke detectors in your home. Multiple methods of contact in your resume for potential employers. Why wouldn't you build reducancies into the health systems you're building? You wouldn't wait until it's needed to give an emergency contact to t

Your year in review!
Merry Christmas! And Happy New Year! if you celebrate such things. This time of year can be great, terrible, stressful and rejuventating. I hope this month has been treating you kindly. This year I really leaned into The Solstice and Yule . Our family has been releasing manifestations to the universe each night and it feels so magical. I didn't do any decorating this year and that too feels so magical (because I hate putting stuff away tbh). Oh lawd. Another year end review

Everything in moderation
I've always said moderation is a mid-point in your health journey. Not because I don't believe in moderation, per se. But because no one knows what moderation. Or what things are. WTF does that even mean. Moderation is the avoidance of extremes or excess. We as a society have lost all grounding in reality when it comes to what those words mean. Moderation isn't something that you decide for yourself. It has a defiinition and words have meaning. In college, I could drink a bot

Phase 2 fitness
Getting in shape sucks. Hard stop. Being in shape, pretty cool, effortless almost. You see people on the internet just doing a workout, and going about their day. But for you, it feels like the whole day. Because you're stuck in Phase 1 fitness, and you can't seem to get to Phase 2. One of my favorite authors is Jodi Piccoult (because I like to lie awake at night contemplating morality), and she has this super tragic book called Nineteen Minutes and in it the dad swims laps

Winter Arc... What's yours going to be?
The last few days have been pretty cold here in the Ohio Valley. Yesterday the wind chill was about 14 degrees. It's not supposed to last but it's a good reminder of what is coming. In 12 weeks the sunset will be back to 6pm. It's not about where you are now. It's about where you could be if you started today. 12 weeks is enough time to train for a 10K. 12 weeks is enough time to lose 12-24 lbs sustainably. 12 weeks is enough time to master the Boomerang, a Pilates move that

Keto people are crazy...
... That's what I always thought. Then I tried it. In March I was getting... hangry... I had been in a calorie deficit for a while and was holding tight to those last 10 lbs or so. So after some research, I decided I would do keto for 30 days. I had read Maria Emmerich's book before and been unimpressed, tbh. She said that I couldn't eat bread and that I needed to bathe in the rivers (she swims in the mornings) and I wan't about it. This time when I read her book, Keto . It

Quarterly update: Fall 2025
Ahhhhh, Fall. The season that seems to bring about the most change, in my opinion. Watching the leaves fall off the trees seems so much more abrupt that watching them bloom. Harvest has a sense of finality, while sowing seeds seems full of promise and hope. With that slightly ominous line, here's a few things I have going on: Pilates! I am working on a 500 hr Pilates training program through the Lab. I'm working with the lovely Jordan Sugarman out of Columbus, Ohio. The in-pe
