Kids are back in school, Fall M.F-er challenge is starting up in September, and I start classes to prep for the NBC-HWC exam, Labor Day is approaching fast. From an Ayurvedic perspective, it's a time of air and ether, things are shifting, and it's important to stay grounded. We should find the routines that hold up. The routines that support us, nourish us, and allow us to find balance in our days.
Your yoga routine should be about balance! Look to add some more balances and twists to your flows, followed by a long grounded wind-down sequence to really seal in your practice. Maybe you spend a few extra minutes in savasana or listen to a meditiation to really let yourself feel present and centered.
As we fall (haha) into new routines, there is always room to let something go. Plates that are too full and cups that runneth over lead to messes. I've been trying to consciously find one thing to let go of and it's been a struggle, I feel like my current routine is working well for me. Things seems to be going fine... So for the fall I'm letting go of 'overreaching'. Things are going well, my routine suits me well. There's somethings I plan to change over the winter (I'm currently on a walking spree, clocking about 12K a day and know I'll trade that for more peloton time over the Winter). There's something to be said for sticking with what works. The fact is most of health and wellness is boring. It's the same routines and same meals and same workouts. It's really a blessing to be at a place where I don't feel the need to make any major lifestyle changes.
I'm about a month into a 100 day journaling challenge with a book I picked up in Columbus, (The Book of Alchemy, for anyone who is interested). It's been eye opening, there's a section on memory that's been enlightening. It's crazy how once you pick the thread of memory, a million more can start unraveling all at once.
Current favorite snack: Simms Zero Sugar Beef Jerky, One of those random Aldi's finds! Once you start reading food labels, sugar is really, everywhere. Even my favorite homemade seasoning I buy at a local place is made with brown sugar. If you're trying to eliminate sugar entirely it can be tricky. Aldi however has not only beef jerky but I've also seen they carry sugar free bacon out in the open, don't have to go looking for it or anything!
